Founded in 2001,
Sudanese Community Association of Illinois came into existence
as a result of collective gathering of the Diaspora Sudanese
resettled as refugees in Illinois. Arrival of about 150 Sudanese
"Lost Boys" in 2001 forced the community elders to called
a general meeting to addressed difficulties each person face
in adjusting to the circumstances, importance of human solidarity
in surmounting such as obstacles, and advancing general welfare
to all community members.
Being the first
association of its kind for the scattered generation of Sudanese,
SCAI aim at providing education, health needs, and other necessity
to its members.
Aims
and Objectives
Despite the challenge
ahead, SCAI is committed to achieve the following aims and
objectives:

To
address all problems of Sudanese who come to reside in
the state of Illinois with a view of assisting them in
their endeavor to cope with the new environment. Assist
the unemployed and the homeless in obtaining employment
and accommodation. |

Develop projects
for the economic, social, educational and cultural advancement
of the community and solicit funds for their implementation. |

|
Offer counseling
services to individuals and families in need of emotional
support |

4)
|
|
Organize the
community with the view of fostering the spirit of cooperation
and understanding among its members. |

5)
|
|
Coordinate
with state and federal agencies and other organizations
providing refugee resettlement services. |
